GAME DAY RECAP: January 26, 2025

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4) U17 Prep

Ramsay Thompson opened the scoring for PHA with a quick shot in close. However, the first would fall in RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 favour as Brady Keith (2G, 2A) net two goals to close out the frame. To start the second, William Spencer net his first goal of the season to further extend RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 advantage. Lucas Graham (2G) would score part way through the frame to bring down PHA鈥檚 deficit, but a late jam play in close from Isaac Sousa restored RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 two goal lead. Graham would once again bring PHA to within striking distance, but Knox Burton (1G, 2A) would put the icing on the cake with an empty netter.听

Notre Dame (2) vs Edge School (13) U15

Perth, Australia鈥檚 Charlie Usher (3G, 1A) would net his first career hat-trick in a blowout win over Notre Dame. Beckham Monette (2G, 3A) would also supply a five-point effort from the blueline while Kyden Bartole (2G) and Easton Armstrong (2G, 1A) scored two a piece. Brody Antignani (1G, 2A) took the sole lead of third place for goals by a U15 skater in a season, netting his 41st of the season in the lopsided victory.听

BWC Academy (4) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) U15

Liam Hussey鈥檚 powerplay goal early in the first gave PCHA the initial lead in this contest, but a quick two goal spurt late in the first gave BWC Academy the lead. PCHA鈥檚 Brayden Lindsay would tie things up with the lone goal in the second. Come the third, both teams fought tooth and nail for the first half of the frame. Rhys McFarlane would end up breaking the ice for BWC Academy, scoring his second of the year to restore their one goal lead. Theo Falk (2G) would net the empty netter later in the period, sealing up BWC Academy鈥檚 21st win of the campaign.听听

BWC Academy (5) vs Delta Hockey Academy (1) U18 Prep

BWC Academy left the first with a lead thanks to Calgary Hitmen prospect Jonathan Bitonti (1G, 1A). Cruz Waltze would garner one back for Delta just 31-seconds into the second, but BWC Academy鈥檚 offence was just getting started. Lukas Lima (2G, 2A) would spark a chain of four unanswered to close out the contest and the BWC Academy win. Between the pipes, Adler Ames (28/29) steered 28-shots aside for his sixth win of the season.

North Shore Warriors (4) vs Shawnigan Lake School (2) U15 Prep

Grayson Hunter (2G) opened up the scoring for the Warriors with his first two goals of the season. Shawnigan鈥檚 Cole Van Oene would get one back later in the frame. Come the second, North Shore continued to find success as Liam Newby and Edward Kemp extended the Warriors lead to 4-1. Owen Vaillancourt would secure one back in the third for Shawnigan but that鈥檚 all they could muster past Elias Mitrikas (24/26), making 24-stops for North Shore鈥檚 second win of the season.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4/OT) U17

Following a scoreless first, Riley Bullion got RHA Winnipeg on the board. Later in the second, Prairie would strike twice within 47-seconds thanks to the efforts of Felix MacMillan and Seth Watson (1G, 1A). Casey Mitschke would get one back for RHA Winnipeg before the ice clean on the powerplay. Atticus Cruz would continue the scoring early in the third for RHA Winnipeg, giving them the outright lead. However, a late goal from Prairie鈥檚 Kase Gellner would force overtime. Just 46-seconds in, Cohen Greenwood would spot Tyson Ross (1G, 2A) in close before roofing a backhand for the game winner. Colton Lutz (31/34) made 31-saves in the win, 11 of which came in the third period.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) vs BWC Academy (5) U17 Prep

An early chain of goals would spell the outcome of this game after BWC Academy opened the game with four unanswered goals in the first period. Zephyr Harms (2G) found the back of the net twice in this sequence while Ryan Fox (1G, 1A) and Aiden Baker each wired one top shelf. Treytin Frizzell would get PCHA on the board with a shorthanded goal in the final seconds of play. Scoring wouldn鈥檛 resume till the end of the third where BWC Academy scored an empty netter and Haydyn Brooks scored a consolation goal. Josh Wu (31/33) picked up the win in goal, making 31-saves in the winning effort.听

OHA Edmonton (3) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (11) U18 Prep

SAHA鈥檚 powerplay went a staggering 7/10 on Sunday in part of an offensive onslaught over the visiting OHA Edmonton. Brayden Ryan-MacKay (3G, 1A) scored all three of his goals on the powerplay while Lethbridge Hurricanes prospect Gavin Lesiuk (2G, 3A) scored twice en route to a five point game, picking up his first goals as a member of SAHA. Mattias Radke (20/22) split the win with EBUG Kolter Gans (4/5).

Yale Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (5) U15 Prep

RHA Kelowna was feeling the home ice advantage early, scoring four unanswered in the first over Yale. Both Mason Szatmari and Carter Bell (1G, 1A) recorded their first goals of the season within this sequence. We wouldn鈥檛 see anymore scoring until the second where Tony Cabelka (2G) would give Yale some life, scoring back-to-back shorthanded goals to make things 4-2. However, Deacon Gayfer (1G, 1A) would supply an empty netter late in the third to seal the win for RHA Kelowna. In goal, Dylan Mingo鈥檚 (34/37) effort proved essential, making 34-saves to shut down one of the division鈥檚 top seeded teams.

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (5) vs Notre Dame (0) U15 Prep

Cole Landreville (2G, 1A) and Maddox Ramage (1G, 2A) worked their magic over Notre Dame on Sunday, chipping in on each other’s tallies in the 5-0 victory. Fynn Huberdeau and 2011-born forward Kai Dingwall provided the other two goals for Pilot Mound. In goal, Yuki Kido (34/34) made 34-stops, recording his first career CSSHL shutout.

STAR Hockey Academy (3) vs St. George’s School (5) U15 Prep

Daniel Makovetskiy鈥檚 (1G, 1A) 27th of the year opened the scoring for STAR Hockey Academy on Sunday. However, Tarik Lammam (2G, 1A) would bang home a loose puck in close shorthanded to put St. George鈥檚 on the scoresheet soon after. As we inched further in the first, Ronin Brunner would restore STAR鈥檚 lead with a jam play in front, giving them the lead through twenty. STAR would continue to add to their lead in the second with the frame鈥檚 lone goal coming on the powerplay courtesy of a Levi Ellingsen howitzer from the right circle. St. George鈥檚 would pick up their play in the third after Michael Taylor and Bradey Ching (1G, 1A) tied things up in the opening five minutes. As play progressed, St. George鈥檚 would maintain their pressure, eventually leading to a highlight reel goal from Lammam to give the Saints their first lead of the contest. Logan Okamura would eventually put the icing on the cake with a strong solo effort to pick up the insurance marker.听

North Shore Warriors (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (7) U18 Prep

RHA Kelowna did not hold back on Sunday鈥檚 Feature Matchup. Saskatoon Blades draft pick, Benjamin Bowtell (3G, 1A) put on a clinic, recording a hat-trick and four points. Brady Walker (1G, 3A) would also acquire four points in the win with emphasis on his playmaking as he registered three helpers. Conner Nicolson (24/25) picked up an assist along with his 24-saves in the win, only being beaten once after Gabriel Kaminski scored a buzzer beater in the second for North Shore.

BWC Academy (2) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (0) U17

A 32 save shutout from Liam Kellett (32/32) propelled BWC Academy to a 2-0 win over Pacific Coast. After a scoreless first, Josiah Lacerte scored the game winner on the power play late in the second period. Kijin Cho would strike again on the power play as BWC Academy grabbed a 2-0 lead 6:29 into the third. Kellett made 12 saves in the third to preserve the lead and give his team the 2-0 win. Logan Maclean (26/28) made 26 saves in the loss.听

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (0) Female U18 Prep

Both goalies faced 27 shots but Alix Walchuk (27/27) was perfect for Shawnigan as she led her team to a 3-0 win over OHA. Grace Cooper scored the game winning goal, beating Jorja Moore (24/27) late in the first period. Cassandra Kehler added an even strength marker and Eden Hamel (1G, 1A) a shorthanded goal as the lead grew to 3-0 heading into the third, where both goalies kept clean sheets.听

South Alberta Hockey Academy (4) vs Edge School (5/OT) U17 Prep

SAHA opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal from Aidan Poulin, his eighth goal of the season. Izayah Zaharko (3G, 1A) tied the game five minutes later, hitting double digit goals on the season. He would score again 2:40 into the second to put Edge ahead 2-1. Madden Wright and Kade Jensen countered with goals 1:18 apart as SAHA regained the lead. Zaharko would again tie the game, scoring shorthanded 1:27 later to complete the hat-trick. Defenseman Jack Bissoon (2G) put Edge ahead 3:08 into the third period. Ryker Klassen (1G, 1A) tied the game midway through the period as the two teams continued to trade blows. Overtime was needed to settle the back and forth match, with Bissoon scoring his second of the game and seventh of the season to give Edge the 5-4 win. Adam Courchesne (36/40) and Hunter Zawislak (43/48) were in net for their respective teams.听

North Shore Warriors (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy White (4) U15

Ryder Pavlic (1G, 1A) provided all the offence Delta White would need, scoring his seventh of the season 7:19 into the game. Ryan Pickell (2G) scored back-to-back goals in the second and Jayden Ni (1G, 1A) added his 35th of the campaign with two seconds remaining in the second. A scoreless third saw Delta White take the 4-0 win, with Cohen Wood (14/14) securing his first career CSSHL shutout.听

Okanagan Hockey Academy (6/OT) vs St. George’s School (5) U18 Prep

Eli Tverdovsky (1G, 1A) opened the scoring with a power play goal, his 17th of the season. Defenseman Lukasz McIsaac tied the game with his third of the season, less than four minutes later. OHA would quickly respond as Charlie Grant (1G, 2A) scored 1:40 later and Tucker Robertson (1G, 1A) scored just 13 seconds after that. Bradley Schmidt and William Ren (1G, 1A) traded goals before Cohen Handby scored a last second marker to give OHA a commanding 5-2 lead heading into the third. Misuk Hou (2G) would spark a St. George鈥檚 comeback, scoring back-to-back goals to bring his team within one. In search of a tying goal, defenseman and 2024 WHL Draft second overall pick Brock Cripps (1G, 2A) would tie the game, scoring shorthanded with 2:28 remaining. However, OHA would fend off the collapse as Ethan Makokis (1G, 2A) scored 1:39 into overtime as OHA grabbed a 6-5 win.听

Prairie Hockey Academy (3) vs OHA Edmonton (6) U15

It was a special teams party in the first as Ivey Vermeulen and Matteo Gambetti (1G, 1A) traded power play goals and Noah Delaurier (1G, 1A) scored shorthanded for Prairie. Marek Pashko tied the game 43 seconds into the second before Deklan Street scored another shorthanded goal for Prairie. Peyten Shilton (1G, 1A) levelled the score with OHA Edmonton鈥檚 second power play goal. Kane Strudwick (1G, 2A) gave OHA Edmonton their first lead 2:35 into the third. Jiseong Kim doubled the lead shortly after and Braydon Lynam (1G, 1A) made it a three goal cushion midway through the period. Bronny Kasturi (13/16) and Conner Aldag (44/50) were in net for their respective teams.听

Shawnigan Lake School (1) vs North Shore Warriors (3) U17 Prep

A power play goal by Richard Desilets II gave Shawnigan a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Connor Liu tied the game midway through the second with a power play goal of his own. Level at 1-1, Christopher Mah and Lucas Lekakis scored 54 seconds apart less than five minutes into the third as North Shore grabbed a 3-1 lead. Having given up听 a goal in the first, Ethan Suhr (23/24) made nine saves in the final two periods to secure the North Shore victory. Liam Chamberlain (25/28) made 25 saves in the loss.听

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (5) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17 Prep

Jack Perrier (2G) scored the lone first period goal and again 9:56 into the second as Pilot Mound led 2-0. Collin Friedrich (2G) added to the lead 2:03 later with his 18th of the season. Logan Miller (1G, 1A) got OHA Edmonton on the board with a power play goal with 5:32 remaining in the second Friedrich would counter for Pilot Mound 58 seconds later though Jaggar John (1G, 1A)听 scored with 17 seconds left in the period as it was a two goal Pilot Mound lead heading into the third. Cash Brebant brought OHA Edmonton within one 4:18 into the third period, as his team looked to complete the comeback. However, Dylan Sveinson put the game out of reach 10 minutes later and Matthew Palmer (55/58) stood on his head with a 55 save performance to give Pilot Mound the 5-3 win.听

King’s Edgehill School (3) vs Mount Academy (2) East U18

KES scored the first three goals of the game as Josh Fleury (1G, 1A) scored in the first and Liam Nash and Jack Sangster (1G, 1A) scored in the second. The momentum would swing in Mount鈥檚 favour when Justin Hughes got them on the board with 1:41 left in the second. Nathaniel St. Pierre Maltais would make it a one goal game with 4:56 remaining, beating Nolan Herritt (41/43) for his second of the season. But Herritt ultimately denied Mount of a tying goal as King鈥檚 Edgehill held on for the 3-2 win. William Talbot (31/34) faced 34 shots in net for Mount.听

Yale Hockey Academy (9) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) U15

A closely contested first saw Yale come out ahead after Jacob White (1G, 2A) scored his 11th of the season. Cooper deWal tied the game just 1:11 into the second but Yale would rattle off five straight to close out the period. Ryker Stevens (1G, 1A) put Yale ahead 1:00 after deWal tied it, Connor Baines (3G, 1A) scored twice, Ben Bury added his 21st, and Lukas Stevens (1G, 4A) scored shorthanded. Hayden Carpenter (1G, 1A) halted the run 3:17 into the third period but Mykah Cormier (1G, 3A) and Baines quickly replied for Yale. Kyle Schierling (1G, 1A) countered for RHA Kelowna 25 seconds later,听 but Mason Cumiskey added a late Yale goal as they earned the convincing 9-3 win.听

Okanagan Hockey Academy (4) vs Yale Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep

Wade Gallamore and Luke Assi 91G, 1A) scored first period goals as OHA led 2-0 after 20. Landon Nagle (2G) extended the lead midway through the second before Gavin Bradley countered, getting Yale on the board with 2:43 left in the middle frame. Nagle scored his second of the game, on the power play, 7:32 into the third as OHA won 4-1 in a game in which they outshot Yale 51-23. Linden Sobocan (22/23) won his 16th straight start, giving up two goals or less in his last seven. Carson Lang (47/51) made 47 saves in the loss.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) U18 Prep

Ty Nessler opened the scoring and Jake Walker added a shorthanded goal as NAX led 2-0. Kasen Harrold would get CIHA on the board 2:20 later to cut into the lead. Lincoln Martin (2G, 2A) tied the game 3:49 into the second with a power play goal. Ben Deacon (1G, 1A) restored the NAX lead late in the second but the CIHA power play struck again as Townes Kozicky (2G, 1A) tied the game 48 seconds later and Noah Milford (1G, 2A) added another power play goal 42 seconds after that. Mason Koponyas levelled the score 6:41 in a the two teams went blow for blow. CIHA would land the final punch as Martin scored midway through the period and Cage Smith scored the fourth CIHA power play goal 47 seconds later. Kozicky added a late empty netter to secure the win for the home side. Defenseman Aden Bouchard (5A) had five assists in the win.听

Edge School (0) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17

Backed by two power play goals and a 26 save shutout by Daniel Marsden (26/26), OHA Edmonton beat Edge 3-0. Osten Strickland opened the scoring on the power play 6:28 into the first. After a scoreless second, Hudson Blair (1G, 1A) added the second OHA Edmonton power play marker 9:55 into the third. Rhett Hudson would give his team some breathing room with an empty net goal with 1:02 remaining on the clock. Emerson Popil (27/29) made 27 saves in the loss.听

Indigenous Sports Academy (0) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

Griffin Horne (2G) scored twice while Lennart Braun (1G, 1A), Chase Kunn, Luke Myhre (1G, 1A) and Henry Thunderblanket (1G, 1A) each scored once as Prairie shutout ISA 6-0. Cameron Beisal (9/9) made just nine saves to record the shutout. Ethan Lewis (67/73) faced 73 shots in the loss.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) U17

After a scoreless first period Cole Schellenberg (1G, 1A) opened the scoring 4:48 into the second. Defenseman Jaxon Foster (2G) put OHA ahead by three, scoring twice in a span of 1:09. Bennett Macek got RHA Kelowna on the board late in the second with his 20th goal of the season. Maximilian Koppel made it a one goal game 2:24 into the third as RHA Kelowna looked to overcome the 3-0 deficit. Tyson Kuiack (23/25) had other plans in mind, finishing with 23 saves as OHA beat RHA Kelowna 3-2.听听

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) vs Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

Caden Stoltz (1G, 1A) scored just 23 seconds in and Ian Dalton scored with 32 seconds left in the period as CDA held a 2-0 advantage. Cameron Kimmerly scored the lone second period goal to get Wenatchee on the board late in the period. CDA held a 2-1 lead until the final minute of the third when things would heat up. Gavin Smith doubled the lead with 28 seconds remaining but Armaan Punn brought his team back within one with 16 seconds left. Sokratis Markarian would restore the two goal lead 14 seconds later to give CDA the 4-2 win. Bennett Byers (31/33) and Anthony Ganoung (19/23) were in net for their respective teams.
